Hybrid Swede put through its paces

Swedish super-coupe gets sideways in the snow.
Khodrocar - Having spun Polestar off into its own electric-focused performance brand, Volvo wowed the world with the Polestar 1.

With 441kW and 1000Nm on tap from a hotted-up version of the T8 twin-engine plug-in hybrid powertrain used in the XC90 and S90, the car is thoroughly modern under the skin.

That extends to the carbon-fibre body panels, underbody and suspension, developed alongside the team from Koenigsegg. Coupled with a shorter version of the Volvo SPA platform, the Polestar 1 is 45 per cent stiffer than it otherwise would have been, and around 230kg lighter.

The 34kWh battery packs positioned at each end of the car go a long way to undermining those weight savings, though.
